Director: Abel Ferrara (‘R Xmas)
Buzz: Abel is an award-winning director (New York International Film Festival,) but this often does not translate into Box Office appeal.

IPOing at $6.00 on 3/16/05, Txredd writes:
Mary stars Juliette Binoche as an actress who becomes obsessed with Mary Magdalene after portraying her in a film. Trouble arises in her life as she becomes consumed.
Priced at $2.36 on 7/12/07, Roger More writes:
This has wrapped and has a TBA 2007 release date in the United States. It was released in several countries in late 2005 and early 2005, so realistically it’s probably not going to get a theatrical release here. Or if it does, you can bet it will be as limited as a movie with the charmless Matthew Modine playing Jesus deserves. Short.

Flashbacks of a Fool is about a high-living forty-something movie star (Craig) who returns home for the funeral of his childhood best friend and has flashbacks to his younger days. The movie is currently filming so it will come to cinema screens in the foreseeable future. However, this is an independently-financed British film for a British audience, and if you are thinking “Surely enough people will want to go and see James Bond when he’s not being James Bond”, you are wrong. See the movies starring Craig and his Bond predecessor, Pierce Brosnan, listed above. Short.

Priced at $1.42 on 9/14/08, warcraft86 writes:
There’s a rumor that this could get a release in NY/LA on 9/19 from Anchor Bay. This shouldn’t change anything aside from possible bond adjusts.

Production is planned to start early next year with a fall 2008 release on the cards. A large ensemble cast is planned, but if Leguizamo and Rodriguez are the biggest names attached… well, it’s not a lot of star power. Overture Films, which is also distributing this weekend’s Mad Money, is releasing this film, so this is not the easy ’short the sure limited release’ play you think it might be.

Priced at $6.18 on 03/18/08, Roger More writes:
November release date – Thanksgiving weekend. Assuming Overture Films still has the money to distribute Humboldt Park, I am relatively upbeat about the movie’s box office prospects. Movies aimed at Hispanic-Americans are pretty thin on the ground, especially family dramedy. I’m not saying this is going to launch De Villa as the Hispanic Tyler Perry, but it is certainly cheap enough to take a chance on.

An independently produced animated film about a spunky teenager. The best comparison I can think of is Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie, which only made it to 1625 screens at its widest and brought in $25M total; that had a built-in audience due to all the videos. With no distributor behind this (and they’ve had 5 years to find one!), its chances of doing any better are sketchy. This might not even make it to theaters.

Prinze Jr. will lend his voice to the production as Delgo. The rest of the voice talent has fallen into place nicely also. Still not sure about its chances though, the official site is pretty interesting as are the character designs. Can’t help but think that it is going to be a limited release though, plus no distributor has been named as yet either.

Well, the trailer is up at the official site. I suppose this is pretty decent stuff for a completely new animation studio but one can’t help but think that they’ve bitten off a bit more than they can handle. It’s also clear that they don’t have a Pixar quality script on their hands. IMDb lists something called “Key Creatives” as the distributor; this is the only film listed under that company, which leads one to believe that finding wide distribution will be a challenge.

Two years later and there’s no update. The official site is still up and running, but it doesn’t have anything like “updates” or other newfangled ideas. However, the stock will hang around HSX like a bad smell as long as there’s the slightest chance of it being released. Let’s all hope for a quick STDVD release.

Filming has wrapped before IPO, which is never a good sign. Happy-Go-Lucky is directed by Mike Leigh, whose films sometimes manage to find an audience when they have actors nominated for Oscars or excellent critical buzz and word-of-mouth. But until that happens, this is a short.
