IPOed at $30.00 on 12/27/08:
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum will be turned into a CG-animated adventure. While the magic of Judy Garland will never fade, this adaptation will bring to life the classic tale without musical numbers. The film is directed by John Boorman (Zardoz).
Priced at $30.00 on 12/27/08, Roger More writes:
Pretty much the only thing I can find is that John Boorman will direct and it will have a budget of $25 million. Now while the size of the budget doesn’t correlate with the quality of the movie, I really doubt they are going to put together an animated movie that looks as good as a Pixar film, for example, with that relatively meagre amount of money. There’s a built-in audience for the movie that will turn out to see it, but I really don’t think we know enough about the film to consider it a worthwhile ivnestment. Also, I love how D.Mac has credited Boorman with being the director of Zardoz, and not, say, the better-known Deliverance or Excalibur.
Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang

Nanny McPhee – $47,144,110, opening weekend – $14,503,650 (1,995 theaters, $7,270 average)
IPOed at $20.00 on 12/26/08:
Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang takes place 100 years after the first film. This time, Emma Thompson’s magical nanny deals with children who are evacuees during World War II. The city kids are not getting along with the country kids. She intervenes and teaches everyone a valuable life lesson.
Priced at $20.00 on 12/26/08, Roger More writes:
Looks like Thompson will be making this movie next year. The first movie starring the warty Victorian-era nanny had a decent enough opening weekend, but it sounds like they have to get a few things ready before filming starts. I wonder if the third Nanny McPhee movie will take place around 2050? I’m sure by then they’ll have the technology to cure her skin condition.

Ian Fleming’s classic children book Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is getting a modern remake. A professor invents a flying car that becomes sought after by a foreign power. A 1968 film was adapted by Roald Dahl and starred Dick Van Dyke.
Priced at $25.00 on 12/26/08, Roger More writes:
I can’t find any news aabout a movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang remake – it may be because the entertainment news is full of the Broadway version, but I can’t help suspecting that it’s because there is no real news about a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang remake at all.

Director: Juston Chadwick

Box office Comparisons:
IPOed at $20.00 on 12/25/08:
The historical drama Ironbow: The Revenge of William Tell is directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl). Tell was a master crossbow marksman who had to pierce an apple atop his own son’s head when he refused to honor Austrian rule. Tell had a second bow to kill the overseer, so he was captured, imprisoned and eventually escaped to form the Swiss Federation. Jay Wolpert scripted for Spyglass Entertainment.
Priced at $20.00 on 12/25/08, Roger More writes:
Ironbow was actually supposed to film in spring 2008, but was pushed back due to the script-writer’s strike. Now the project seems to be moving forward again, with Justin Chadwick replacing Kevin Reynolds as director. Most discussion of the movie actually focusses on the William Tell legend rather than actual news like casting or production start, which tells me it is better to wait and pick this stock up for cheaper.

IPOed at $30.00 on 12/25/08:
The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus written by L. Frank Baum of ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ will become a CG animated film. Claus was abandoned as a baby, raised by a nymph and educated by immortals. He fights evil and eventually gets recognized as a Saint who is known for his kindness to children. Tom Tataranowicz, Rich Arons and Dick Sebast will direct the film for Hyde Park Entertainment.
Priced at $30.00 on 12/25/08, Roger More writes:
Film-makers are looking for a Christmas 2010 release. None of the three companies involved in production – Hyde Park Entertainment, Toonz Entertainment and Gang of 7 Animation have any feature film credits to their name and I am very wary of investing $1.5 million in an independently-financed movie that could well be the next Delgo. Christmas spirit? Bah, humbug!

IPOed at $15.00 on 12/24/08:
The horror comedy It’s A Wonderful Afterlife centers on a British-Indian mother who resorts to serial murders in order to marry off her daughters. Described as My Big Fat Greek Wedding meets Shaun of the Dead, the film will feature a multi-cultural cast. Gurinder Chadha will direct and co-script with her producer husband Paul Mayeda Berges.
Priced at $15.00 on 12/24/08, Roger More writes:
Not many movies are pitched as My Big Fat Greek Wedding meets Shaun of the Dead, but the former was such a huge success because even though it wasn’t a particularly funny movie, a lot of people could relate to the premise of comical wedding preparations and tacky but well-meaning families. I doubt that this movie is going to have the same wide appeal, and I never regret shorting moviestocks that have lashings of black comedy. Filming starts in February.

Keira Knightley will bring to life the fast-living and hard-dying Zelda Fitzgerald in The Beautiful and the Damned. The biopic drama centers on the glamorous lives of F. Scott Fitzgerald and his troubled wife Zelda. Nick Cassavetes is slated to direct the film.
Priced at $20.00 on 12/24/08, Roger More writes:
Another period piece from Knightley, this one putting her in the 1920s or so. Filming begins in April, but as this movie looks as though it will have more shouting and martini-throwing and less romantic smoochie-woochie I wouldn’t invest in it. Except to short it, of course.

Priced at $65.00 on 11/24/08, Roger More writes:
Twilight’s $70 million opening weekend only finished yesterday. Even if teenage girls are fickle, do I really need to tell you how you should be holding this? Surprise, surprise Summit Entertainment announced yesterday that it is moving forward with production of New Moon before its audience is done with puberty. The movie could see release as early as December 2009. This is a strong buy.

An intergalactic predator also comes with him shattering the equilibrium on earth and causing havoc. Director Howard McCain co-wrote the script with Dirk Blackman.
Priced at $9.78 on 2/17/07, Ultimate Frisbee writes:
This movie appears to have had a hard life so far. According to a story in Variety from November 2005, production was supposed to start June 2006 in New Zealand. That apparently didn’t happen, though, according to this Variety article from September 2006 indicating filming would start October 2006 in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Not exactly in the geographic area of New Zealand. HSX says it’s in production but I can’t find anything else to confirm that.
Priced at $1.07 on 3/19/2008, BlueDuck writes:
Apparently, filming for Outlander has wrapped, and the movie is in post-production. There’s even a September 2008 release date on IMDb (but only in Russia, go figure.) Probably won’t ever make its price, but there are worse ways to invest $50k on the Exchange.
