IPOed at $30.00 on 07/05/08:
MGM plans to remake Robocop for 2010. A police officer becomes a cyborg after getting fatally injured. Paul Verhoeven directed the 1987 original film starring Peter Weller.
Priced at $30.00 on 07/05/08, Roger More writes:
I can live with a remake of King Kong, but a remake of Robocop? This desire to remake the classics has gone too far. Who could personify evil more than the guy who played the dad on That ’70s Show? I wouldn’t buy that for a dollar. Anyway, MGM has mocked up a teaser poster and is readying the movie for a 2010 release. No star and no director yet, which is why the IPO is only priced at $30. Buy it, but keep an eye on the project in case 2010 arrives without a Robocop remake.
Foodfight!
Release date: Removed from schedule
Studio/Distributor: Threshold Entertainment/Lions Gate Family Entertainmen (LGFE)
MPAA rating: PG?
Category: CG animation
Principal Players: Hilary and Haylie Duff (voices), Charlie the Tuna, Uncle Ben, Chef Boyardee, Chester Cheetah, Twinkie the Kid.
Director: Lawrence Kasanoff (debut)
Buzz: In active development, production expected to wrap in late 2004, or early 2005.
Budget: 60 million
Priced at $10.93 on 1/19/01, Huy writes:
When the lights go out at the local supermarket, the food comes to life and fights it out against the sinister Brand X. Why are they making this? Does anyone know? Does anyone care? Apparently it?s part of a deal Threshold have going with IBM. Why is Deep Blue interested in movies? I?m trying to surpress my cynicism, but it?s hard.
Priced at $5.77 on 01/31/04, Horlicks writes:
This has got to be the longest production cycle ever, 4 years? IBM are using the film to showcase their advancements in Grid computing. The end result is a ‘cheap’ CGI film ($50m) not unlike the 2001 film Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Considering that IBM are behind the core processor for the Nintendo Gamecube and the upcoming Playstation 3 I have high hopes for this one. At $5.77 this is dirt cheap and definitely worth a punt.
Priced at $8.24 on 01/29/05, Horlicks writes:
The film is in production.
Priced at $11.79 on 06/03/07, Ultimate Frisbee writes:
Well, it’s been about 2 1/2 years and Foodfight! has wrapped production and is now gong through the final editing stages. Hillary and Haylie Duff are still on board as voices. They have been joined by Charlie Sheen, Eva Longoria, Christopher Lloyd, and Wayne Brady. This also now has a release date, although it just got pushed back a few months from 11/16/07 to 4/11/08.
Priced at $8.02 on 12/16/07, Ultimate Frisbee writes:
It didn’t take 2 1/2 years for more news but the news is not good as this been changed from a definite release date to TBA.
Priced at $0.74 on 07/04/07, Ultimate Frisbee writes:
What’s worse than TBA? Being removed from the schedule altogether as Foodfight! has been.

MPAA rating: Unknown
Release Pattern: Likely wide
Category: Fantasy
Principal Players: Benicio Del Toro, Catherine O’Hara, Forest Whitaker, James Gandolfini
Director: Spike Jonze
Buzz: In development
IPO Date: July 1999
Priced at $21.89 on 1/10/01, Huy writes:
A young boy journeys to a magical place where wild creatures rule. No evidence that this is going into production any time soon, or that Verbinski is still interested. No real reason to buy, either. Avoid for now.
Priced at $3.02 on 01/09/04, Horlicks writes:
Jonze is now attached as the director of the project. It was previously set up as a totally CGI based project but Jonze has lobbied and won to have a live action adaptation made. No word has surfaced on when production might start.
Priced at $15.63 on 10/15/04, Horlicks writes:
The production start date is ‘nearing’ according to Variety. No specific date is given but I would venture to guess it is later this year or early next year.
Priced at $61.82 on 3/18/07, BlueDuck writes:
Well, this has moved on to Paramount, with Jonze still attached. No word on when, exactly, the wild rumpus will start.

Never a good sign, Where the Wild Things Are got moved from 10/3/2008 to TBA 2009.
Priced at $90.75 on 3/2/07, Ultimate Frisbee writes:
It was a fairly short-lived setback as this is back to having an actual release date, now 10/16/2009.
Priced at $66.51 on 5/26/2008, BlueDuck writes:
Details on how the movie was made - sounds interesting if they can get it to work.

The wild rumpus is scaring the tykes.
Priced at $64.01 on 7/4/08, Ultimate Frisbee writes:
Where the Wild Things Are is not the release schedule as this has been pulled from October 2009 and listed as TBA. Not even TBA 2009. Just TBA. Guess the reshoot isn’t going well.
Cats and Dogs 2: Tinkles’ Revenge
Release date: 10/16/2009

IPOed: On 3/2/02 at $54
Status: In development
Buzz: Pretty speculative so far

- Cats and Dogs opened wide on July 4th, 2001 and adjusted to $76.89, delisted at $81.63.
Priced at $37.61 on 4/1/02, Huy writes:
Not much to say really on this one. The original hardly set the world alight, tapering out at under $100m domestically, but it apparently made just about enough profit (probably on video where family films make the majority of their money) on its $60m budget to justify a sequel. A summer 2003 release date is being targeted, although its very early days so far. Warners are hoping to bring back the majority of the cast, but no details have been signed so far. Wait for news.
Priced at $29.72 on 7/10/03, DPRoberts writes:
John Whitesell (Malibu’s Most Wanted) is now in the director’s chair. I guess this means that it’s still alive, but a late 2004 release date is probably the best you’ll get now.
Priced at $15.85 on 6/2/04, Horlicks writes:
Moviehole reports this has been put on the backburner for now and though it will be made it will likely feature a completely different voice cast. Sound like an STV project to anyone else?

Pining for the fjords.
Priced at $11.95 on 7/4/08, Ultimate Frisbee writes:
It appears Cats and Dogs 2 is really going to happen as it now has a release date of 10/16/2009. Of course, that’s still a long way off so a lot can still go wrong. It also appears that Brad Peyton has replaced John Whitesell as the director.
Drag Me To Hell
Release Date: 5/29/2009
Category: Thriller
MPAA rating: TBA
Release pattern: Wide
Studio: Universal
Principal players: Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Jessica Lucas, David Paymer
Director: Sam Raimi
IPOed at $25.00 on 01/02/08:
The supernatural thriller Drag Me To Hell is directed by Sam Raimi from a script he co-wrote with his brother Ivan. The film is a morality tale centering on a man who unwittingly becomes the recipient of a supernatural curse.
Priced at $25.00 on 01/02/08, Roger More writes:
Sam Raimi has found something else to do while waiting for The Hobbit to come together. He’s written a script with his non-cameo-making brother. Production on this will start next year - apparently on a much smaller budget than the Spiderman films (no surprise) - but there’s no word on who will star. I’m unconvinced that there are sufficient Raimi GFBs to make it worthwhile to put money in this stock for the long-term, especially before I know for certain that it’s going ahead pre-strike.
Priced at $27.00 on 02/10/08, Roger More writes:
Ellen Page will star, and filming is set to begin in March - before Page moves on to Whip It.

IPOed at $20.00 on 11/21/07:
Columbus Short, Jay Hernandez, Jonathan Schaech and Rade Serbedzija star in the horror-thriller Quarantine. A deadly rabies strain breaks out in Los Angeles, trapping a reporter, a cameraman, a cop and a fireman in an apartment building. The film is directed by John Erick Dowdle.
Priced at $20.00 on 11/21/07, Roger More writes:
The only thing to be said for this film is that it has staked out a pre-Halloween opening next year. 30 Days of Night had a similar opening weekend, and opened to $15 million, but it was based on a graphic novel and had a distinctive style that had more than a few people excited. I think this film will do less well, which makes it a bad investment in my book.

MPAA Rating: TBA
Category: Drama, romance
Studio: Weinstein Co.
Principal players: Guy Pierce, Catherine Zeta-Jones
Director: Gillian Armstrong (Oscar and Lucinda)

IPOing at $12 on 8/24/05, Bickle Jr. writes:
Death Defying Acts, directed by Gillian Armstrong, is based on true events during the escape artist Harry Houdini’s (Guy Pierce) 1926 tour of Britain. It follows Houdini’s passionate relationship with a woman (Rachel Weisz) he encounters in Scotland. It’s set to start shooting in early 2006, so don’t hold your breath.
Priced at $2.38 on 7/18/07, Roger More writes:
This has wrapped with Zeta-Jones taking over from Weisz. As it will be distributed by Weinstein, it is too much to expect any word on a release date.
Priced at $3.16 on 8/23/07, Catherine Zeta-Jones writes:
Death Defying Acts will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. And there’s a T-Mobile hot spot at the Park Hyatt where you can enjoy the fastest wireless Internet connectivity of all the major carriers.

Release pattern: TBA
Studio: TBA
Principal players: TBA
Director: TBA
Buzz:
Box office Comparisons:
IPOed at $15.00 on 07/04/08:
Philip K. Dick’s sci-fi novel Ubik is coming to the silver screen produced by Celluloid Dreams. The murder mystery concerns characters who experience strange shifts in reality and time travel. They realize a substance called Ubik can set things straight.
Priced at $15.00 on 07/04/08, Roger More writes:
Celluloid Dreams optioned the rights to Ubik in May so of course the movie’s going to happen. There’s just the small matter of finding a screenwriter, and having him come up with a script that everyone’s happy with and then attracting a couple of stars and then changing the script to meet their requirements and then finding a distributor who’s happy with the whole package and a director with a creative vision but not so creative that he wants to change anything and… you get the idea. But the producers plan to go into production in early 2009, and good luck to them.
Dune
Release Date: TBA
Category: Sci-Fi
MPAA rating: TBA
Release pattern: Likely wide
Studio: Paramount
Principal players: TBA
Director: Peter Berg
Buzz:
Box office Comparisons:
IPOed at $30.00 on 07/04/08:
Paramount will attempt another feature adaptation of the classic sci-fi tome by Frank Herbert Dune. The story centers on a power struggle to control a precious substance called Melange on planet Arrakis. A previous adaptation was directed by David Lynch. The new version will be scripted and directed by Peter Berg.
Priced at $30.00 on 07/04/08, Roger More writes:
Is information about the movie really relevant to DUNE the HSX stock. Won’t geek-exuberance keep the price buoyant? Dune isn’t the most accessible sci-fi book and it was first made into a movie by David Lynch, who isn’t the most accessible director. Now it looks like Peter Berg will be directing a new version, which might not impress fans of the Lynch film but has potential to broaden the audience for the movie. There hasn’t been much news in a few months though, but there’s nothing to indicate this is languishing in development hell just yet.
